Reminiscing on 1 Year
I can’t believe it’s been just over a year since walking down the aisle at St. Peter’s Church in The Big Apple. As cliché as it sounds time really does fly by. This past year has been filled with many ups and downs, but that’s life right? From being fresh newlyweds living in a studio apartment to renovating a house to keeping my business afloat and recently moving to the burbs, life sure has been one crazy ride. To be completely honest, it hasn’t been easy but we have so much to be grateful for and I now know for certain my husband and I can make it through anything.
Looking back on my big day and the entire wedding planning experience there’s definitely things I would have done differently, but I now have some great advice for brides currently planning there own weddings. My first piece of advice is to not try to please everyone. You will not make everybody happy so at some point stop trying to because it will not happen. This is something I didn’t do and looking back I should have thought about what my fiancé and I wanted instead of worrying so much about our guests. I still believe that it’s important to think of your guests when it comes to convenience and logistics, but in the long run you have to do what you want to do. There are so many different ideas about what a wedding “should be” and what’s “right and wrong” so it’s truly impossible to satisfy all your guests. It’s your day so as long as you and your groom are happy that’s truly what matters. The second piece of advice I’d give to brides is to not be so indecisive. When it came to wedding planning I was indecisive and needed an opinion (or two) on almost every little detail, which looking back probably stressed myself out even more. As a perfectionist, I wanted to be sure that I was making the right decisions on everything. So just trust your gut and go with it. And if you’re really struggling, get a trusted opinion and then just make a decision. Don’t waiver your options too much as it will cause much undue stress.
Reminiscing brought up a lot of mixed emotions about my wedding and the planning process, but I’m glad I can share what I learned with other brides. Would I have chosen some different vendors or cut back/added things? Of course! Was the day magical because I married my love and best friend? Absolutely! Was there a laundry list of things that went wrong on the day? Yup! But did it inspire me to help other brides and learn more about the wedding/event industry? Yes, so it was all worth it! Just remember, it’s hopefully your first (and last) time planning a wedding so you’re completely new to it all, just as I was!
